Wir freuen uns auf Bali, haben aber unsere Erwartungen leider auch ein wenig zu hochgeschraubt, denn dieses Paradies ist für unseren Geschmack zu voll.... Leider muss man nach den Schönheiten der Insel hinter vielen Lagen von Souvenirständen suchen und nachdem die meisten Balinesen vom Tourismus leben ..... wie viele Menschen mögen schon ihre Arbeit wirklich?  

We are looking forwards to Bali but we also have much too high expectations - this paradise is too full for our liking.... Unfortunately you have to search for the beuty of this island behind 3 layers of gift stalls. Since most Balinese live of tourisman ..... and quite honestly - how many people do you know that really love their work?

Aussicht auf dem Weg zu den kleinen Fährbooten, die in Richtung der Gili Inseln fahren. Lombok ist noch ursprünglicher als Bali, aber auch hier wird sich das in nicht allzu weiter Zukunft ändern. Auf Gili Air gibt es mehr Touristen als Einheimische, aber trotzdem genießen wir die 3 Tage hier - so ganz ohne Verkehr und mit nicht viel zu tun ..., Dann gings aber mit Kurzstopp in Kuta, wo wir an einer traditionellen Hochzeitsfeier teilnehmen dürfen auch schon weiter

View on the way to the small ferries to the Gili isles. Lombok still has most of its original flair but tourism is arriving and it will change this place a lot more too. On Gili Air are more tourists than locals and no motorised traffic - we do enjoy 3 lovely lazy days here ... then a brief stop in Kuta where a the cool surferdudes hang out and we get invited to a traditional wedding . But then we already have to move on.

Auf der Fähre nach Sumbawa, eine Insel die wesentlich schöner und freundlicher war, als ihr Ruf. Leider braucht man hier Zeit, um sie zu erkunden - und die haben wir nicht. Wir überqueren die Insel in 2 Tagen und fahren nur quer von einem Ende zum anderen auf unserem Weg nach Flores (so wie es die meisten anderen auch tun)

We are on the ferry to Sumbawa, an island that is much nicer and friendlier than its reputation. Unfortunately one needs time to explore this place better and that we do not have. So we just crossit from one end to the other in 2 days on our way to Flores (just like most people do) 

 Wir sind nachts in Labuan Bajo angekommen und werden am Morgen von der Aussicht angenehm überrascht.Unser Tagesausflug zum Komodo Nationalpark ist einer der schönsten Tage der gesamten Reise und Flores wird unserre Lieblingsinsel in Indonesien (sollte man wohl nicht zu laut sagen, denn sonst kommen am Ende zu viele Leute her und dann wird die Insel mit Hotels zugebaut und verdorben .... 

We arrived in Labuan Bajo in the middle  of the night and this beautiful view in the morning was a real surprise. Our day trip to Komodo National Park was on of the best days of the whole trip so far and Flores quickly turned into our most favorite island in Indonesia .... probably should not say that - it might give too many people the idea to come here and than they will buid all these terrible big hotels and resorts and ruin it all......

Die Fähre von Larantuka nach Kupang war genau so, wie man sich indonesische Fähren vorstellt: völlig veraltet, überladen und chaotisch. Unsere letzten paar Tage in Indonesien sind angebrochen und nachdem wir in Kupang das Wochenende verbringen müssen, um auf unsere Visaberechtigungsbriefe zu warten kommen wir dann auch wirklich in letzter legaler Minute an der Grenze zu Osttimor an.

The ferry from Larantuka to Kupang was just as you imagine an Indonesian ferry: completely outdated, overloaded and chaotic. Our last few days in Indonesia are here and after we have to wait in Kupang all weekend for a visa permission letter we really get to the Est Timorese border in the last few hous of our legal visa time
