Nun sind wir also wieder auf der Südinsel Neuseelands und hoffen, dass der Frühling mittlerweile etwas mehr Einzug gehalten hat.

Wir schauen uns zuerst den Abel Tasman Nationalpark und den nordöstlichen Zipfel der Insel an, bevor wir wieder zurückfahren und uns in Richtung Westküste orientieren

So now we are back on the South Island of NZ and hope spring has reached it by now.

First we head for the Abel Tasman National Park and the most northerly tip before heading back and in the direction of the Westcoast

Wir erwandern beide Gletscher und fahren dann an der Küste wieder zurück, um über Arthur's Pass an die Ostküste zu gelangen. Die Gebirgslandschaft ist unbeschreiblich, zum ersten Mal sehen wir Keas und dann schauen wir uns die Banks Halbinsel an.

On the east coast we have a good look around Banks peninsula

Auf dem Inlandweg fahren wir zurück nach Timaru. Unterwegs platzt uns der Reifen und es ist nass und kalt. Nach einem erholsamen Wochenende mit Mark, Rebecca und Familie geht es auf die 2. Runde. Diesmal entlang der Südküste bis nach Invercargill

we take the scenic inland route to Timaru. Here we have to repair a burst tyre. On the way it's cold and rainy but we have now a weekend with Mark, Rebecca and family where we can refresh and prepare for the next leg of the journey. It's down the coast and around the southern shore to Invercagill.

Invercargill war fest in unserer Reiseplanung, denn wir mussten ja unbedingt Burt Munro's weltschnellste Indian sehen. Ob mans glaubt oder nicht, wir fanden in dieser Haushalts und Eisenwarenhandlung ein Museum zwischen Rasenmähern und Küchenhandtüchern.

Nach einem netten Tag in  dieser Stadt ging es im strömenden Regen entlang der Südküste bis hin zum Fjordland. Das Mistwetter nutzten wir, um das Auto zum TÜV zu bringen

Invercargill has been a must see on this trip - we had to visit Burt Monro's world fastest Indian. Believe it or not but we found it and a museum in this hardware shop between lawn mowers and kitchen towels.

We then had a lovely day in this city but then had to follow the rest of the south coast in pouring rain once again. The horrible weather we used to take the car for its MOT (WOF) before we finally reached the Fjordland area

letzter Stop vor Milford sound - Gun Lake - von hier zum Sound und dann weiter in Richtung Queenstown kommen wir aus dem Bewundern nicht mehr heraus - die Landschaft ist definitiv das Highlight von Neuseeland und wir bekommen den Mund fast nicht mehr zu. Queenstown selbst ist unserer Ansicht nach nicht unbedingt der Rede wert, aber auch dort ist die Landschaft das Besondere. Die Gegend ist die regenreichste im Land und voller glasklarer Seen, in denen sie die schneebedeckten Berge spiegeln

Gun Lake - last stop before Milford sound. the drive to and on the sound is just unbelievebly beautiful and deserves the title of NZ highlight. From here to and around Queenstown, again absolutely stunning. The town itself is, where we are concerned, hardly worth mentioning but this whole area is full of crystal clear lakes in which you can see the mirror images of the snow capped mountains

Von Queenstown aus geht es über die Berge zu Lake Wanaka und dann über den Haast Pass und zurück. Dann durch das ehemalige Goldgräbergebiet in Central Otago, wo wir in Naseby einen Abstecher zu Eric Swinborne machen, der ein Freund von Mike ist, den wir in Tasmanien kennengelernt haben und eine Leidenschaft für klassische Rennmotorräder und Autos hat. Dann geht es wieder einmal nach Timaru.

From Queenstown we cross the mountains first to Lake Wanaka and the across the Haast Pass to the west coast and back and then through the  old gold rush area of central Otago where we stop in Naseby to visit Eric Swinbourne - he is a friend of Mike who we met in Tasmania and has a  passion for classic racing bikes and cars. Then we have another weekend in Timaru.

Auf dem Weg zu Mount Cook halten wir in diesem netten Museum/Krimskramsladen- der  ist einfach nur nett. Dann bewundern wir den  höchsten Berg aus der Ferne - denn als wir ihn erreichen hat er sich unter einer Wolkendecke versteckt. Wieder suchen wir uns eine neue Strecke, die von hier aus an die Süd und Ostküste führt, wo wir uns alles anschauen, was wir beim ersten Mal ausgelassen haben.

Mt Cook we see from the distance while following the shoreline of lake Tekapo - when we get to NZ's highest mountain hides behind a thick layer of cloud.

Now we find a new route to the south and east coast to discover all the places we have not yet visited here

Die Sonne geht unter über der Gischt vernebelten Bucht von Brighton - ein unwirklich schönes Bild. Wir sind mit Johannes unterwegs, einem Koch, der sich ein Jahr Auszeit in NZ gönnt und mit dem wir seinen Geburtstag verbringen. In Dunedin trennen wir uns wieder,wir schauen kurz auf der Otagohalbinsel vorbei und dann noch in der Steampunkzentrale Oamaru bevor wir zum letzten Mal in Timaru landen, uns unser Reiseandenken - ein Maoritattoo machen lassen und uns dann von der Familie Wheatley verabschieden 

Sunset at a bay near Brighton the spray of the crashing waves creates a mystic atmosphere. We are travelling towards Dunedin with Johannes - a young chef who has taken a year out to work/travelNZ. Togethr we celebrate his birthday and when we part in Dunedin we keep going to the Otago peninsula for and then up the coast via the Steampunk capital Oamaru back to Timaru. Now we have our Maori tattoo done and then we have to say farewell to the Wheatleys

Christchurch beeindruckt uns in vielerlei Hinsicht - sowohl was das noch immer riesige Ausmaß der zerstörten Gebäude anbelangt, als auch die Art und Weise, was und wie neu aufgebaut wird. Wir laufen uns hier die Füße wund und verbringen unsere beiden letzten Tage in Neuseeland so ganz für uns, bevor es dann leider/endlich zum Flieger in RichtungSüdamerika und Liza geht

We are impressed by Christchurch and that n more than one way - we can't believe the degree of destruction but also like the way and ways it is being rebuilt. We walk our little feet off and spend our last two days in NZ by ourselves before we finally get on our way to South Amerika and to Liza
